In efforts to preserve the historic old 7 mile bridge to Key West, The Friends of O7 asked us designers to create a vision of what the bridge can be
-With nothing but sky and water, the most pressing question becomes :
“What makes a place?”
Its a profound question to ask yourself when beginning a design process. Because of the site conditions, I felt it was important to communicate my impressions of this place. I went to the site and walked along the old rusty bridge. The cloudy day allowed me to walk about 2 miles when I stopped and thought to myself, “There is nothing here”. All there was to the site was a thin linear spine in the infinite abyss of sky and water. As a designer, this brought a shiver of anxiety up and down my back. URBAN_RESET was a project of process. It served 2 motives:
The goal of my exploration was to define my views for both myself and for a stage (architecturally speaking) and combine them through a process of writing and collaging. In the end, I would come to a final collage depicting the fundamental essence of myself in relationship to the world stage.
